Presentation of Hoceima National Park

Let me tell you about the best preserved natural park in the Mediterranean, of exceptional aesthetic quality! It preserves the last vestiges of the original biological diversity of the Mediterranean.

🔍Covering an area of 48,000 ha, the Al Hoceima National Park was created in October 2004 and includes a land part: the Bokkoyas Massif" and a part located at sea 🌊.

📍Location: The Park is located south of the Alboran Sea Ho near the town of Hoceima in the heart of the central Rif ⛰ which is none other than the extension of the Baetic Cordillera in southern Spain.

📏Distribution of the park:
- Cala-Iris which is the western limit of the national park
- Bades in Bekassem including Torres (I will talk about it in detail in the next post)
- Adouz in Tikkit,
- From Tikkit to Boussekour including Taoussarte (first photo 📸)
- Boussekour to Lalla Mimouna (Kimmat).

🏰Torres de Alcala

Torres d'Alcala or Torres des Sanhaja, the two well-known names of this Moroccan fortress located in the heart of Al Hoceima Natural Park, reflect a long-debated historical ambiguity. Recent excavations and major rehabilitation work, however, have put an end to the controversies over the origin of this building and have helped to trace the thread of a turbulent history.

📍Location: Castle made up of five towers overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, it is located in the Bani Bourah tribe, in the "Sanhaja Al-Sahel" area, west of Al Hoceima, 50 km away.

🔍This site was the first semi-urban center after the demolition of the towns of Badis and Al-Muzma and played after the capture of the island of Bades, the most important point in the region for trade and communication with the north-west (the port of Ceuta in particular).

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Population:
A Spanish document published in Annales du Rif, the 2nd and last issue, indicates that the statistics for the year 1942 limited its population as follows:
The total population is 242 inhabitants, Jews 200, Spaniards 40 people and 2 Muslims.

📝 History: This fortress was built at the beginning by the Almohads after the increase of Iberian ambitions in the region, especially after the defeat at the battle of punishment in Andalusia
And after its demolition it was rebuilt by the Portuguese 🇵🇹 in 1499 AD at a height of 91 meters above sea level, making it a strategic observation point by land and air.
After the deterioration of the Portuguese presence, the Spaniards entered it in AD 1563, and it is one of the most attractive castles and monuments that attracts large numbers of tourists and scholars in the history of the region.

🏖️Bades

Lost in the heart of the Al-Hoceïma natural park about 50 km west of the town of Al Hoceima, at the end of a dusty track crisscrossing the mountain, the village of Badès looks like the end of the world.

🏖 Bades beach is surrounded by cliffs and offers a magnificent panorama over the Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera.

📍 Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera. Like a stranded liner, the "Spanish" peninsula, from its 87 meters high, dominates the entire bay.

🤸‍♀️: in the region, the limestone massif of Bokkoyas has many bays and natural coves all along the coast. Some are only accessible by cruise ships

📝 History: It is one of the smallest land borders in the world: the border between the two countries hangs by a thread, the blue plastic rope stretches on the beach in the middle of wooden boats.
Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera is possession of Spain since 1564, having already been occupied between 1508 and 1522, but is claimed by the kingdom of Morocco which does not recognize Spanish sovereignty. The soldiers of the small Barracks of the Cuerpo de Regulares of the Spanish Army are the only inhabitants of the island.
