Top Tips for the Oued Laou - Jebha Mediterranean route: your complete guide N ° 1
This time, I am offering you an itinerary in the Mediterranean coast including first of all the coastal village Oued Laou to Jebha via the Quaa Asseras village where we were staying. On a foggy day, we decided to go for an exceptional hike in Ouad Kannar. I will talk about all of these destinations in detail.
Sommaire
Oued Laou village
In the northwest of Morocco, on the Mediterranean coast, is Oued Laou. This small seaside town, renowned for its large beach framed by mountains, has been able to keep its charm as a fishing village.
🚌How to get there?
✈️By air
The closest airports are first Tetouan and Tangier then a little further Fez and Rabat!
With the TGV, the Casablanca - Tangier trip becomes very short so Casablanca airport is also an option!
🚙By land
The nearest larger town is: Tetouan 1 hour drive (46km).
The city is not served by rail. If you come from one of the largest cities in the country, the ideal is to take the TGV (the fastest and most comfortable way) to Tangier then take a bus or grand taxi from the bus station to Oued Laou (via Tetouan).
If you are coming from the center of the country (Fes / Meknes) you can take a direct bus to Oued Laou via Chefchaouen or stop in Chefchaouen then take a Bus or grand taxi.
🌞When to go?
Like everywhere in the Moroccan Mediterranean coast, the best time to visit is from April until October.
🤸♀️Activities
- picturesque beaches: Mekkad and Hjar Sfar🏖 beaches
-Souk Sebt: the weekly Saturday Souk not to be missed.
-Ouad Ifartane: very beautiful destination for hiking along this river and its pretty waterfalls.
-Ouad Kannar: I will talk about it in detail below.
🏩Accomodation
We stayed at Quaa Asserass (more on that below). But many apartments for rent are available, whether on site, Airbnb or Booking.
🍽Restaurants
You are in a fishing village so almost all the restaurants on the main street have a fish specialty 🐟 The price of fish is about the same all over the Mediterranean coast in the Rif. Frying around 140dhs / kg 💰 Sardine chwaya at 20dhs 💰
📣 Tips :
Consider buying the FRAN AL ALI tagine which is a local product renowned internationally.
Quaa Asseras village
The Mediterranean coast continues to move upmarket. The small towns that populate it have been the subject of an upgrade for some time.
Quaa Asserass, located between the mountains of Ouad Laou and Targha in the rural commune of Tizgane. I loved the simplicity of this small seaside resort recently fitted out and not very touristy. There is everything you need for a summer getaway.

With the TGV, the Casablanca - Tangier trip becomes very short so Casablanca airport is also an option!
🚙By land
La ville n’est pas desservie en voie ferroviaire. C’est à 14min de route de Oued Laou. Demandez les grands taxis de Oued Laou qui mènent à Quaa Asserasse.
🌞When to go?
Like everywhere in the Moroccan Mediterranean coast, the best time to visit is from April until October.
🏩Accommodation
A real crush on our airbnb CASA DEL MAR from the Cosimo family.
Nestled on a mountain near the village offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains on the other side. A wild beach is just below the mountain after a 15min hike. We rented the studio for around 400dhs💰
📣: Be careful ⚠️ the route is rigid, the steps are quite steep for the descent of the beach 🏖. For people with reduced mobility, it is better to avoid and go to the other beaches of the village.
-Last photo 🏝 the picturesque Marsakhlouf beach which is on the road to Targha.
🍽Restaurant
Apart from the restaurants on the main street of the village which serve succulent fish, I enjoyed the very clean Sindibad restaurant / snack bar with very good value for money.
Hiking in Oued Kanar
I will take you to the most ATYPICAL hike I have done in Morocco🤩
Even though I have heard about the turquoise water, the narrow gorges and especially the natural pools of Ouad Kannar, this river that descends from the heights de TALESSEMTANE. But I never imagined how exotic it is 🏞!
Its pure and wild landscapes, in the heart of the RIF mountains ⛰ and the flowing valleys are breathtaking !! And what impressed me the most were the little douars in the middle of nowhere as well as their super nice and warm inhabitants despite the poverty of the region ...
🚌How to get there?
So here I can tell you (as you can see in the photos) that the car journey is not at ALL easy. We did an hour's trail from 📍Stehat to Ouad Kannar.
For adventurers, a 6 hour hike awaits you from Stehat 🚶♀️. 📍Stehat is a coastal village 20min drive (18km) from Quaa Asserasse and 30min drive (27 km) from Oued Laou.
📣 Tips :
It's not a very touristy destination so be well equipped in terms of everything!
🍽Restaurant
There are 1 or 2 restaurants but I recommend bringing back sandwiches 🥪 so as not to break down there.
Jebha village
In the middle of the western Rif mountains, there is a port village discovered by the Spaniards in 1926. A village not to be missed if you cross the Mediterranean bypass !! You cannot resist the urge to stop there to appreciate the bay Mediterranean that stretches as far as the eye can see in front of this agglomeration, like a front, from which it takes its name: El Jebha.

🏩Accommodation
There are few hotels. The Al Mamoune hotel opposite the port is the ideal establishment which offers from the room or the terrace a breathtaking view of the sea.
But it is easy to stay in the many houses that are rented out during the summer season. summer.
🍽Restaurant
And finally, I am very happy to present to you one of the most panoramic restaurants I have ever seen !! You have a breathtaking view of Jebha bay and the surrounding mountains.
📍The Vista Mar restaurant is located 3km outside Jebha on the road on the left towards Hoceima.
💰 J forgot to take a picture of the card but I remember that the table you see did not cost us more than 150dhs. I find the prices very reasonable for this breathtaking view!
